Our Business

Who We Are 

A little about what a CSA is (community supported agriculture), CSA's have been around for 20 years, We have been doing this for the last ten years, and have had a wonderful time doing this: Though CSA's may not be for everybody, but we would love to serve your family.

The basic concept of a CSA is the farmer offers a certain number of shares to the public. A share consists of a weekly box of vegetables these are then termed a membership or subscription. Interested consumers purchase a share from us, and weekly we provide you with the freshest vegetables possible.

A CSA is not only rewarding for the farmer but also you the consumer:

• Eat ultra fresh foods with all of the vitamins and nutrients because everything is as fresh as can be, picked the same morning as delivery.
• Get exposure to new vegetables and a new healthy way of cooking. Thus helping to maintain or lose weight, lower blood pressure, and cholesterol also. You will also find if you have children, they are more excited about eating vegetables as they come from the farm they feel they belong too--even 5those they would not even try before.
• You also develope a relationship with the farmers who grow the food for you, and learn more aboout how your food is grown and when it is at its peak for your eating pleasure.

The advantaage of the farmer through a CSA:

• Get to spend time marketing their produce early in the year, giving them time to learn how much a year will entail to have the means to meet the demands of the members.
• Also by pre-paying it gives the farmer the necessary monies to get the supplies and plants that are necessary to make his year sucessful to meet the members needs. All of this happens during the fall and winter before our 16 hour days for 6 months of 16 hours in the field begins again.
• Farmers also have the opportunity to get to knoe the people for which they are growing produce for.  Making it a win-win situation for all involved.

Sharing the risk;

Sharing the risk means that we're all in this together, and sometimes mother nature throws us a curve, so if something can't be grown we will try to find it from a local farmer who was more sucessful or we supplement a little more of what has been abundant, as farmers we try our best to meet all of our obligations in meeting the demands of our subscribers to the best of our ability, but there are no guarentees. Thats why we all in this together.  That is why this shared risk is part of what creates the sense of community.

We alsio have a great sense of responsibilty to serve or subscription members, before offering our produce to other persons. Though remember things on the farm can happen way beyond the growers cintrol. But we give it our all and have been very sucessful meeting those needs the past ten years.

But if all of this makes you overly anxious than a CSA and Shared risk may not be for you, though every person should give it a try for one season, for which I personally say you will be hooked for life. Although if you prefer to not know your farmer on a personal basis and now that everything is morning fresh than a farmers market may more meet your needs...but please give us a summer to prove to you this is really the right choice to get the best and freshest produce possible in Iowa.
